How to Set Maximum Footnote Height in InDesign (Is It Possible?)

I am Running InDesign 2026. I went: Type > Document Footnote Options > Layout. My understanding is that is where the maximum attributable area for footnotes on a page can be set. The option is not there. Where is it?

    Hi @Michael J B,

I understand how important this functionality can be, especially when you’re trying to control layout precisely.

As confirmed, this option isn’t currently available in Adobe InDesign. There isn’t a setting to define a maximum height for footnotes, as they are automatically managed within the text frame and adjust based on the content.

I understand this can be limiting for certain layouts. If this is something that would really help your workflow, I’d recommend raising it as a feature request here: https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601021-adobe-indesign-feature-requests

Adding your use case there helps the team prioritize improvements, and you’ll also get notified if there are any updates on this.

Feel free to reach out if you have more questions.

    Abhishek

You’re looking in vain. That option doesn’t exist.
