Question

How to set the width/height of the text in Indesign 2024?

Hello,

the problem is

I need to print a book page, where the height of the text must be 17,5 cm and the width 11,5 cm. The space between the text on two pages (when a book is open) must be 3 cm. The margins up, down and on the sides must be 2cm. When I set the text/width in the setups, everything seems ok. But then I convert file into PDF and print it. On the paper the parameters are changed, like now it is 10,5x16 cm, and the space between the text frames on two pages is 4 cm.

What is wrong and how can I fix it?

It also sounds like all of your margins are set to 2 cm. The Inside margin should be 1.5 cm if you want a total space of 3 cm, but that seems really tight (in fact ALL of the margins seem too small to me), and it would help if you could post the actual specs from wherever you got them.

Maybe I don’t understand well your issue, but that is normal : 2 cm on the left page + 2 cm on the right page equals to 4 cm. So, it means that if you need 3 cm between text on the left page and the right page, you need to have 1,5 cm margins.

I would check my settings for printing the PDF.

By default, Acrobat is set to Fit the page onto the output sheet in the Page Sizing & Handling section of the Print dialog box. This ensures that you get the entire PDF document page layout on the sheet you print it on. I would try changing the options to Actual Size and print it, then to Custom Scale: of 100% in the print dialog box, and see if you get better results than running with the defaults.

I recommend that you try both of the full-sized page options, because sometimes anomalies you can’t see may affect how your final output appears on the printed sheet. I’m hopeful that you will find the right setting(s) there to get the printed results you’re looking for.

    Hope this helps,

For starters, can you please post screenshots of the InDesign page as well as the resulting PDF.

Also, what are your InDesign and operating system versions?
