How to show editorial notes

I have two documents where I've made editorial notes. One of them shows a marker in layout view; the other doesn't. Both show them in the Story Editor. The View > Extra > Hide/Show Notes are the same in each document. Screenshots are attached.

How can I get note markers to show up in both documents?

About two decades ago, I knew ID pretty well. I've got a lot to learn and relearn. Thank you!

Also, is there a way to edit my post? I should have pasted the screenshots rather than attaching them. Here they are again.

No notes markers:

Try turning on "show hidden characters" under the Type menu. Also make sure you're not in preview mode by pressing "W" to toggle the view.

Check Type > Notes > Notes Mode or go to Window > Editoral > Notes to review the notes in your file.

That did it - it was in preview mode. Thank you!
