How to update a file from a template with colour swatches and fonts?

Hi

I'm creating an indesgin template that has a set of Paragraph styles and colour swatches defined for a company's documents.

It has the company theme colours fonts etc that are used in notices, letters etc.

I'm trying to figure out if there is way to update a file with the latest template if for example we change the heading style?

As far as I can see I would have to update the style in each document as well as the template.

Seems a pretty basic function but I cant find anything.

Do I have to update everything manually?

Thanks in advance.

You can accomplish this by using the Book feature.

Go to File > New > Book. Save and name the book.

In the Book panel, add all of the documents to the book that you want to update.

One of the documents in the book needs to already have the updated colors, fonts, etc. Click to the left of that document to make it the document you want to synchronize the others to.

In the Book panel menu, choose Synchronize Options to select what you want to synchronize.

Select all of the documents in the book panel that you want to synchronize to the "master" document.

Now click the Synchronize button  or choose Synchronize from the Book panel menu,

if there's page numbering in your files, you'll have to fix the numbering afterwards

Good point. Thanks for adding that, Jeff. Of course, it's not too painful. There is an Update Numbering command in the Book panel.

Books are handy for many things, but if you no longer need the book after synchronizing, you can delete the book file. That won't delete the individual files in the book.

Barbara's solution is a great way to accomplish what you are trying to do. But remember, if there's page numbering in your files, you'll have to fix the numbering afterwards in your individual documents.
