How to use the curvy line to create a border for a white text box and have the outer white bits disappear

I want to use the curvy line tool to create a border around a text box with a white background. It looks great, but the box shape under the curvy line is still visible.

I want all the protruding white bits where the curve indents to disappear. I want the curvy line to become the border, not just to sit on top of the box.

Is this possible in InDesign? If so, how?

If not in InDesign, maybe in Illustrator? If so, how?

Thanks!

To expand a bit, create the frame in Illustrator, then copy and paste the path into InDesign and double-click inside it with the Text Tool to convert to a text frame.
