Hyperlink to A File

Hi Adobe Community,

I'm looking for some advice on how to use the hyperlink feature in InDesign to link to a file (see the screenshot I attached). I usually link text or objects to a URL, but I haven't tried linking to a file before. I want to know more about the pros and cons of this option.

- How will it the PDF file affect size when I export it?
- If I link to a file on my company's internal drive, will it cause any problems for external users who open the PDF? My company restricts access to our internal drive for external users. Should I store the file on my local drive instead?

I'm using InDesign 2024 version for Windows 11 Enterprise. Device specs is 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-1165G7 @ 2.80GHz 2.80 GHz.

Does anyone here have experience with hyperlink to a file? Any feedbacks would be really appreciated.

Thank you.

It's just a link, PDF size won't be affected. You can check that very easily: export with and without the link.

The linked PDF simply won't open, that's all.

Maybe. Experiment away! You won't break anything.
