Question

Hyperlinks: how to make them work when an ID doc becomes a .pdf

Hello,

I am confused, maybe I need phone help, but I thought I would ask here first.

I have ID in Creative Cloud, running on Windows 10.  I want to place a hyperlink in an ID doc that will jump to a .pdf in a Dropbox folder.  Then, the ID doc holding the hyperlink will become a .pdf that will go in the same Dropbox folder.

I have found a couple places for Hyperlinks in ID and the selected text highlights as per a hyperlink, but no evidence of a link appears when I mouse over the text.  Clicking on the text only sits the cursor there.  The link doesn't work when I make a .pdf of the ID doc, either.

How do I get a hyperlink to jump to a .pdf?  Please don't send me to Help; I have already been there to no avail.  I don't underdand the instructions; it feels like more detail is needed there.

Thank you.

If you're looking at your hyperlink in InDesign, that's because it's not a clickable link within ID. You can open the link from the Hyperlinks panel, though:

The link doesn't work when I make a .pdf of the ID doc, either.

That relies on the correct checkboxes being selected at the PDF export dialog:
