Question

hyphenation problems in justified text?

I’m experiencing frequent hyphenation issues when using justified text in Adobe InDesign. Words are breaking too often, which makes paragraphs look uneven and hard to read. I’ve tried adjusting basic hyphenation settings, but the problem persists. What advanced settings, paragraph style options, or best practices can help reduce excessive hyphenation while keeping text properly justified?

Hi @jameswilly2 , What are your Justification settings? You can use Hyphenation setting to limit the number of hyphens, but the Justification settings handle your letter and word spacing preferences. Here’s the default vs. a custom setting with limited hyphens:

@jameswilly2

Please show us a screenshot of your Hyphenation panel so we can see your settings.

Are you applying the hyphenation with Paragraph styles or with overrides?
