I am having a lot of problems with Arabic and left-to-right layouts

Hello,

In the past, I installed my Indesign to English (Arabic). I have experienced a lot of problems with this, but now I want to switch it back to Dutch (left to right). So I uninstalled and reinstalled it in Dutch, but...

The option for Arabic text are still there, and a lot is going wrong in my text-elements. I placed a Word document, and look at what happens to all comma's and full stops.

Also the numers are still all in Arabic. I don't know how to get them right. I jsut want my Indesign to act normal again....

What can I do??

When you Uninstall from the Creative Cloud desktop application, you will see the below message, make sure to click the "Remove" button in oreder to clean up the settings.

Having said that, even if you remove your ME version, then install a fresh Dutch version, when you open a document that was created in, or saved from an ME version of InDesign, most of the Right-to-Left symptoms will stay in the document and influence your InDesign within this particular document. In this case I recommend that you continue to use the ME version of InDesign for this particular document only.

When you say this:

The option for Arabic text are still there

you mean you still have RTL tools in your InDesign interface? Like LTR and RTL text direction buttons on your Paragraph panel? If so, your uninstall of Arabic/reinstall of Dutch didn't work.

Did you uninstall from the Creative Cloud app? Did you change your langage selection to Dutch in the preferences of the CC app? If both of those are "yes" you might have to be a bit more thorough. The most thorough method is the Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool, but I wonder if just signing out of CC and restarting your computer would be enough.

Reinstallation won't erase settings from your document.

What options do you have set in the ParaStyle definition?
