When I try to create a text box in my A-Parent page, and I insert a Current Page Number, I get a red check box and an error that says there is overset text.

Check the paragraph and character style settings to see if they are causing the overflow. deselect everything and look at your settings. For example, is the type size too large for the frame, is it set to start on next page, etc.

You seem to have found the answer in the paragraph styles, but another common cause for this type of behavior is text wrap applied to another object on the page.

The paragraph and character style settings are all normal, and I’ve tried to adjust the size of the text box to make it larger as well.

check the text box in Story Editor. as @Dave Creamer of IDEAS mentioned, there still can be something in the paragraph or character styles that pushes text out.
