I don't even know how to describe this problem?

I'm having some issues opening some files from a shared network that all my coworkers have access to, and I seem to be the only person having trouble with these files. I get an error message claiming that the files were created with a newer version of Indesign (despite the fact that I have the current version, and these files were probably made with either an older version or the current one.) They'll appear either of these two ways.

For a while it gave me an option to convert the files and that worked fine for a while, so I shrugged it off. Now I'm getting an error message saying that the conversion services aren't available. I am logged into creative cloud. Trying again later changes nothing. These files are now completely inaccessible to me.

Also the extension on these files don't say IDML. They should just be INDD's.

This has only been an issue for me concerning ONE specific folder on this shared network. Every other Indesign project on the network, or my own computer, I can open just fine, without issue. What's puzzling is that my coworker can open these SAME files that won't open for me without any of these errors, so I don't think that they are corrupted. We're all using the same version of Indesign.

I'm running Indesign CC 2017, recently updated to build 12.1.0.56 on OSXYosemite 10.10.5.

I checked to make sure I didn't accidentally have two versions of Indesign installed and I do not. Not sure what to try next. Prompt help would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

And I just re-read your original post. You'll need to upgrade the operating system to upgrade InDesign.

Compare the numbers. The message says 13.something and you say you're running 12.something.

CC 2017 is not the most recent version—2018 (currently 13.0.1.207) was released a month or so ago. It will not run on Yosemite, which is probably the reason you are not seeing it available for download in your CC app.

Ah, interesting. Thanks for letting me know, because that might be a problem for my office later.

However I doubt that's the cause of the problem, since my coworkers running CC 2017 are able to open these files.

All evidence is to the contrary. Those file were created in CC2018.

Upgrade using the CC Desktop app. It's labeled InDesign CC. There's no year designation.

Your computer must meet the system requirements. On Mac that means OSX 10.11 at a minimum.
