Question

I exported an indesign file to eps. I am unable to open the file in photoshop or illustrator

I need to export a document in extremely high resolution (press quality PDF is not good enough). I have exported the indesign file to eps, but when I go to open the file in illustrator and/or photoshop, I get an error message. Illustrator says "unknown error", photoshop says it's unable to parse.

Any ideas how to get around this problem?

Or alternatives to saving as eps in extremely high quality given that press quality PDF is not good enough?

TIA

I think you need to back way up, here. 🙂

First, EPS is a largely obsolete format that should be avoided unless you have very narrow technical needs for it. In the same general file spectrum, PDF is superior in almost every way. EPS files also can't be opened directly in very many apps; they are a closed — "encapsulated" is the first word in the term — export file for use as-in in other apps.

Also, PDF export can be manually set to values outside the standard drop-down options, but it's best if you really, really know what you're doing with those settings.

And — I can't imagine a reasonable scenario where PDF/Press Quality isn't as high a resolution as can be needed for most needs. Use of vector elements makes the resolution effectively infinite, or at least matching the limits of any rasterizing or RIP device like a printer.

Maybe back up and describe your project and your goals, and we can probably steer you to a reasonable solution.

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.
