I have InDesign 2 (2004) on a portable HD (my host computer IBookG4 died, can I get a newer mac to work it?

I Have Adobe InDesign (see above #s) and the files linked to a book file that I am in the middle of finishing, which is all on a portable terabyte HD. That HD was working off of a IBookG4 (2005) (The IBook G4 died last evening) since years ago I was using Macromedia suite before Adobe purchased that company.  And as you may remember back then (2004-5) no later Mac than the IbookG4 would run the Mac Macromedia software.

BUT I can now live without the Macromedia stuff, and I am assuming the IBookG4 is now too old to be repaired. But I do need to run the InDesign and my current file, which is ALSO on that portable HD. So, my question is: Will I be able to run my vintage InDesign and open my existing work file by getting a new MAC laptop and plugging in my portable HD? If so how far back does the Mac model (OSX) have to be. My cell REMOVED am communicating via a windows computer. Thank you. Please let me know that you received this message. Yor support is appreciated. July 16, 2018

    Hi James,

    absolutely no chance to run InDesign 2 ( that's not CS2 ! ) on a current OS X.

Not even with my old MacBook Pro from 2008 with OS X 10.6.8 installed where CS3, CS4 until CC version 9.3 is running.

    Sorry.

CS6 and earlier programs have not been tested and will not be updated for Mac El Capitan or later operating systems

-which means that you try to use CS6 and earlier at YOUR risk of having problems due to Apple updates

-Apple did not maintain backward compatibility with old programs in El Capitan or Sierra

--Adobe has a workaround to Apple's problem of not maintaining backward compatibility

--READ HERE https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2301916 for an Adobe solution to installing old programs, including a link to installing the old Java runtime that is required
