I want to preserve my file structure when packaging

I have a book with 50-some chapters, documents, InCopy files, images of several types, vectors and bitmaps, Excel spreadsheets, etc., numerous authors and editors. I have a nice working file structure with folders for images, documents, so on. Why can't I save that file structure when packaging, instead of InDesign ripping everything out and dropping it all together into the same Links folder?

Simple answer: that’s not how it works.

Yeah, I know. It's one of those wish list items. I wanted to bring it up to the developers at Adobe MAX, but I couldn't get into any of the under-the-hood ID sessions. Just wondering if anyone else has ever thought the packaging structure was a bit under-developed.

The primary purpose of the packaging feature was to send the entire project to a service provider. If you need something more robust I suggest popping over to the scripting forum to see if anyone there can help you.
