ID or PDF files to 3D

I produce a monthly magazine for a local organization in InDesign (latest version). Files go to press as PDFs. They are now making a website (which I am not involved in). The person creating the website asked the following question: "Step one is to make sure you have your 3D Issues setup. Are you using the 3D Issue software or something else?"

I have no idea what this means as I've only done print work. Is there any reasonably simple way to convert ID or PDF files to the 3D files he wants?

It depends what they're after and their budget. Perhaps show them a sample made with InDesign's Publish Online – simple to produce from your print a/w, hardly any cost (just your extra time), it can be viewed on almost any device, you can add some bells and whistles e.g. simple animations, hyperlinks etc. The disadvantage is users have to be online (but who isn't these days), and you can't monetise it.

3D Issue on the other hand is expensive:

Very good idea Derek. As this will be on a website, the viewers will obviously already be online. And this isn't something involving revenue. I have never used Publish Online -- I'll have to find some info on how to get started there.

Lynda.com have some great online video tutorials on using Publish Online, you can get a 30-day free trial.

It's very easy to create such a document. You can copy the code to embed the link on to your customer's website (the Publish Online document is hosted on Adobe's servers).
