Question

Illustrator vector clipping mask to InDesign

I've imported a vector (eps) of a little character into Indesign with transparent background and want to wrap text around it but none of the wrap options run round the charater shape, only round the vectors outer rectangle

If I got to Object>clipping mask>detect edges the edge of the vector is messed up (regardless of what I do with the tolerance sliders).

I've tried adding a clipping mask layer in Illustrator but can't see how to select that in Indesign (Photoshop clipping masks can be picked up so why not illustrator?).

Sure I've done this before and am just having a mental blank! Any help appreciated!

Thanks

Try saving as AI and placing that. EPS is a horribly archaic format and I'm not sure how well ID is going to handle finding the content.

Hi Etcho:

It sounds like you just need to manually adjust the text wrap boundary, and since you seem to have Illustrator skills, it should be easy for you. Use the Direct Selection tool to adjust the anchor points and control handles, the Add, Delete and Convert anchor point tools if you need to further refine the path.

And to address this question:

I've tried adding a clipping mask layer in Illustrator but can't see how to select that in Indesign (Photoshop clipping masks can be picked up so why not illustrator?).

That's just how the applications work. InDesign recognizes a clipping path or alpha channel from Photoshop but there isn't an equivalent feature for Illustrator files.
