Image Quality Settings Not Affecting Preview in InDesign 19.5

Hello, if I want to see any image (pdf, tif, eps etc.) in full quality, then this preview is still the same,  doesn't matter if I choose High Quality, Typical quality or Fast preview. Seem still as Typical quality. Any idea how to solve it? Thank you... Ilja

Hi @cadispraha,

Thanks for pointing that out! Let me guide you through checking the GPU settings on Windows 11 in InDesign:

1. Start by opening your InDesign application.
2. Go to Edit > Preferences > GPU Performance.
3. Make sure the "GPU Performance" option is checked. This setting allows InDesign to use your graphics card for better performance.

If you don’t see this option, your graphics card might not be supported or the drivers might need an update.

Let me know if you run into any issues or need more help!

Thank you,
Abhishek Rao

The problem is found. It is my hw. Seems that it is VGA. I tested it on my wife's PC. She has stronger Ryzen, 64GB RAM and ONBOARD VGA. And ID is working as designed. thx so much for help. We can close this discussion.

Hi @cadispraha ,

don't know if that was mentioned, but what you see under "High Resolution" depends on how "High Resolution" for viewing is defined in InDesign's preferences. Maybe there is a difference in InDesign 2024 when compared with the preferences in InDesign 2023v where all is working as expected?

Hi Uwe, thx for reply. The problem is in my hw. Seems Adobe changed something between ID18 and 19. ID19 on stronger PC is working fine. Until today I thought my PC was strong enough... 😞

In addition to what @rob day has mentioned, display quality can be set at both tghe application level (which will be the default for the file) and at the object level, by right clicking the frame, and this setting will override the applicarion level choice.

Hi Peter, correct. But it is still the same. I have typical quality for all preview for speed in general settings, but time to time full preview is needed, so I choose it only for individual frame. But in ID2024 it doesn't work. ID2023 is fine, all works well there.

Have you tired resetting the preferences and clearing the InDesign Cache folder? See Reset InDesign Preferences and Other Troubleshooting

Hi @cadispraha , Does it happen if you restart your computer and InDesign? I’ve seen the problem you are describing when there is not enough memory available to display the high quality preview.

Hi Rob, thx a lot for reply. See my update to Adobe epmloyee... ID 18.5 is working fine on the same HW. So I am expecting some troubles in ID2024.

Hi @cadispraha

Thank you for reaching out.  I understand how frustrating it can be when image previews don't reflect your chosen quality settings.

To help you better, could you please confirm a few details?

What operating system are you using? Additionally, are you working on a specific type of monitor (wide, ultra-wide, curved, etc.), and what screen resolution is set? If possible, a screenshot of your workspace indicating the issue would be really helpful.

In the meantime, try resetting your display performance settings or checking if your GPU Performance is enabled under Preferences > Performance. Sometimes, toggling these options can make a difference.

Looking forward to your reply so we can get this resolved for you!

Thank you,

Hi @cadispraha,

Thank you for the detailed information!

To help us investigate further, could you please share a sample file where you’re experiencing this issue? This will allow us to check it on our end. Additionally, if possible, could you provide a screen recording comparing the performance between InDesign 2023 and 2024? Since it’s working fine in the lower version, this comparison will be valuable for us.

We will wait to hear from you.

Thank you,
