Image still blurry despite 300 ppi and high quality display performance

Hi, I've been putting together a couple of large posters (24 in x 36 in) for a school project and the main image of it is super blurry for some reason, both in the InDesign file and when I export it as a png. I've ensured the display performance is set to high quality from the view menu, object menu, and my preferences. I've ensured the PPI of the main image is over 300. I've ensured the main image is over 24 inches wide. I've tried enabling and disabling antialiasing.

I've checked pretty much everything, but nothing has really fixed the problem. I haven't been able to find info in past posts on the forum, and I've never had this issue before. I was hoping someone on here could help me fix this soon.

It's never going to look as good in InDesign - InDesign generates a proxy image to display to save on power. That image is only a representation of what you see.

You need to check the Effective PPI of the image in the Links Panel. If you've enlarged the image when you Placed it in InDesign, the resolution will be reduced from the original 300PPI.

PNG is a raster format.

  1. What is the original file type you have used to import into InDesign?
  2. What is the purpose why you export to PNG?

Thank you for the article. I was not aware InDesign was displaying a proxy image. That explains the issue I was having.
