Images hidden in overset text after placing in Indesign

I am working on a book. I have the manuscript in Word with images embedded and/or anchored. When I place the text with images included I see blank pages but I suspect the copy is there as the overset marker is at the bottom of the page. All the images appear (126 of them) in the links panel with the 'OV' overset marker. I suspect the images are so big they are pushing the text out causing the overset. I can place without images but that is not what I want to do. I don't have the original images. I am also aware of a previous post 'How do I remove invisible linked images and overset text in an InDesign file?'

Is there a way to grab these images to push them aside, resize or what ever so I can begin to work on the spreads? Or, is there a way in Word to stop them doing this?

Not sure if you are still seeking a solution, but I had a similar problem when dropping any image into my document. The text on top of the image would show as overset.

To fix, I changed the Text Wrap settings of my image to "No Text Wrap". The issue was arising when it was accidentally set to "Wrap Around Object and Shape"

Select image > Window > Text Wrap > No text wrap

Let me know if this works for you.

The problem was not when Placing images - but importing WORD document with images already present - unfortunately, your solution won't help at all.

Another possibility would be to import the Word file without the pictures.

Then, to retrieve the images files:

make a copy of the Word file
change the file extension to .zip.
unzip the file (on my Mac, I use “the unarchiver” application https://theunarchiver.com/)
you will get a folder, containing subfolders. The images are stored in word > media

Thank you for your responses. Both help in pointing a way forward. I tried 1 & 2 of W. Adelbergers suggestions without success. I think there is a more straight forward way to achieve what jmlevy is suggesting (unless my idea has unitended consequences down the line). If I highlight all the images in the links panel I can un-embed the links. If I click 'no' to the diaglog asking 'do you want to link to orginal file?' I can add the images to a folder. I then go to 'story view' where I can do a find/change i.e. copy the anchor symbol which indicates an image – put this in the find box – change to something like[IMG] in a bright color in the replace box, replace all. I find the text has flowed with images deleted but with indicators showing where there should be an image.

This is not the work flow I would wish but it gets me moving. I was hoping there might be a one click action I had over looked.

I must confess, I'm surprised that Willi's suggestion of simply making the frame wider for a moment doesn't work. I wonder how large these images are! Would simply making them all smaller so that they could fit inside the frame work for you?

You might be able to use the Find Objects tab in the Find/Change dialog. If you choose the "Object" tab, and search for all Graphic Frames, and in Change Object Format you navigate to Anchored Object and choose "Custom", then they won't be inline anchored objects anymore, and won't cause the frames to be overset.

Then, you can more easily e.g. change the size of your images if necessary, and then move them back inline, manually or with the Find Objects tool. (I'm just guessing here, as I can't figure out why you'd want full-page inline objects in the first place.)

Another way forward would be to find a script that would reduce your total number of clicks. I found a script that would release all anchored objects. I have no idea if it would be helpful for you, vide my "I can't figure out why you'd want full-page inline objects" comment supra. But they wouldn't be gigantic images overflowing your frames, at least.

Several possibilities:

Make the text frame temporarily wider,
add another frame in the text flow, which is large enough to get the image or
change to text view cmd/ctrl+Y.

In the Story Editor you can quickly see what's wrong - and decide what to do - you can select and cut and object - then paste it "outside" of the text to make your text flow again.
