Images not updating upon opening InDesign file

Question

I am working in the latest version of INDD. When I open a file it sometimes says, some images need to be updated. Then I have the option to leave as is or update. When I choose update, it spins as if its relinking everything, then it opens the file and nothing is updated. I then have to manually update the links manually from the links palette. Did you ever hear of this happening?

Are the linked assets on a remote or network drive? There may be a permissions issue, or sometimes network admin rules governing "relaying" can interfere.

Aside from that, when unexpected behaviors are encountered, it's always good to try a reboot and/or reset of preferences.
