Question

Images placed in a sheared shape become slanted

This is probably a rookie mistake...

I create a rectangular frame and use "transform" to shear it into a parallelogram

I select "place" to put an image in this skewed frame.

The image itself becomes skewed as well, but I want it to stay "normal" and undistorded

I'm missing something basic and obvious - but what?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Luuk,

alternatively do the shearing with the Direct Selection tool.

That will move the path points and does not do a transformation of the rectangle, but changes the shape of the rectangle.

With the Selection Tool and Transform you keep the rectangle and do "only" a transformation that the contents, your image, has to follow.

Before you place the image do following:

  1. You have the distorted frame (shear or any other transformation)
  2. Draw a small rectangle abov, so small that it is inside the frame of the transformed object.
  3. Select the transformed object and the small rectangle
  4. Menu > Object > Pathfinder > Add.

Now you can place the image without tranfering the transformation.
