Images Repositioning in InDesign CC2019 when updating links

I have a handful of RGB TIFF images placed in my InDesign layout. I open them in PhotosShop, convert them to CYMK and save them.  Then I open the layout in InDesign and I get the prompt that the images have changed.  Whether I select "Update links" or update them individually in the links pallet, the images reposition and change scale.  This never happened before CC 2019.

I checked the File Handling preferences and confirmed that the "Preserve Image Dimensions When Relinking" is checked.

Please help!  I have a file with over a hundred images that I would like to update without having to fix each one manually.

A clear sign that the new feature Content-Aware Fit is activated in Preferences.

Last item under Preferences > General.

Uncheck Content-Aware Fit before updating placed images and graphics in preferences.

Why are you converting them to CMYK? There is zero reason for you to be doing this. A modern workflow not only supports RGB images, but it is the recommended way to handle them.

As for the repositioning, do you have content aware fit enabled?

Because the printer asked me too.  I've been working with this printer for 20 years and they generously awarded me this massive coffee table art book project. But that point aside, I never had this issue in previous versions of InDesign. How do I fix this?

As a work-around, I just figured out that the .IDML file makes the updates perfectly. Then I re-save it as a .INDD
