Question

Importing not correctly formatting

I am still pretty new to InDesign, but I know this shouldn't be happening. I am working on a novel, and I am importing/placing the body from a Word doc. Not sure if there is something I need to do in the Word doc, but starting at the first italic word, the rest of the text stays italic instead of switching back. I am starting a 100-page novella, but I have a 100k-word book I need to start every soon. Does anyone know how to fix this besides the obvious correction by hand? Trying to streamline things on the small doc and set up styles and parent pages before getting to the big one. Same author, so I know any changes will be small.

You certainly should be using styles properly in Word and making all corrections BEFORE bringing it into InDesign for final layout and revisions. That said, is this a true Word document in DOCX format or something for a third party saved as a Word document?

Finally, it's really impossible to tell what's going on without seeing the original files.

Do you work with character and paragraph styles in Word? You must do it!

when importing the file to InDesgn, all styles must be mappped to appropriate designed styles in InDesign.

A oid manually formatted text at any cost
