Importing text from Excel to InDesign

I have an InDesign template that I currently copy and paste text from Excel into manually. I want to import the Excel into InDesign to help speed up this process, however when I import the data my InDesign formatted changes. How do I import Excel text into my InDesign doc without changing the formatting?

I copy the cells to Word and import the Word document.  Specially with date import I get a mess if I import the Excel file directly.
