Imposition Software Recommendation

Greetings, I am looking for a way to impose 1-up variable data output produced using Data Merge. I tried using the "multiple records" feature of Data Merge but it's too slow and not precise enough for my purposes. Has anyone used a third party imposition tool to create a multi-up imposition of Data Merge PDF output? I don't need anything too fancy - just the ability to design and impose basic multi-up layouts with some crop marks, etc. Any recommendations would be appreciated (also if you know the rough pricing for the product that would be appreciated as well)!

Using Inline Datamerge script may be an alternative to plain Data Merge, but I prefer to do imposition with a software specific for that.

I have Imposition Studio (https://www.devalipi.com/moreinfois.html), which is really powerful and affordable imposition software. Ther are licences for digital presses and full size. What is great is there is also possibility to scale for creep so that your saddle stitched jobs match both on the outer edge and on the spine.

Can you show us sample/sketch of what you're trying to accomplish?

Whar is it about Multiple records that is not "precise enough"?

I'll try to post an example. Basically a multiup label job with very specific position requirements, including gutters and special crops. I'm sure it can be done, but I'd like something a bit easier to use across multiple different styles of layouts. Also no support for different sort modes like cut and stack and ordering of items (such as consecutive numbers) where I'd like those to be split across multiple columns. That sort of thing. I'll let you know if I find anything interesting/reasonably priced!

The key to precise multiple record data merge is to have all content placed within a bounding frame that is precise. If you have a 5" x 1.5" label with .125" bleed, you will need to create a 5.25" x 1.75" frame that enclosed all static and variable content. A text frame that extends slightly over this bounding area will throw things off.

I understand that you want to use a 3rd party software, is mostly to due with the speed of the process? I would suggest putting your artwork on a Master page, with the data on a document page. In my expierence, it is the repeated copying of artwork that causes the slowdown.  This might not be what's hapening to you.

Good suggestion. I do believe that is what slows down the process is having to step/repeat the static content such as graphics. Also the placement of the objects is not as precise as I'd like it to be.

Are you a print provider or content creator? If you are a printer with digital or offset capabilities, I would look into imposition solutions that integrate with the DFE/RIP that you use. If you are a content creator, I would suggest an Acrobat plugin that performs most imposition layouts, with prices ranging from $600-$1200.

One note, the processing time to data merge single records would be the same as multi records.

Thanks for the reply.  I'll check with the client to see if they have such capability, but I'd prefer to send them print-ready and imposed PDF files.
