In Design 19.0.1 is slow on my iMac M1

I just upgraded to In Design 19.0.1 (2024). Every time I open a file I get the spinning beach ball for about 3 or 4 seconds. If I have two files open and toggle between them, I get the same spinning beach ball for 3 or 4 seconds per toggle. I've already set the display performance view to "typical" and it still does the same thing. The version before (2023) doesn't do that at all. Does anyone have any information that could help me solve this issue?

Thanks.

Jono

OMG, yes, what is going on? Same here, on Sequoia 15.0.1, shall we go back to the previous Ver? I cannot deal with spinning balls 😄

Hi @Barbara25100005rd9d,

I understand how frustrating it can be to deal with slow performance and those spinning beach balls in InDesign.

Are you experiencing the same issues with InDesign 20.0? It would be helpful to confirm which version you are using to provide more targeted assistance.

If you have not yet tried the troubleshooting steps mentioned in this thread, I encourage you to check them out: Resolve Slow Performance and Unexpected Behavior and Adobe's Help on Slow Performance.

Please keep us updated on your progress or if you have any further questions!

Best,
Abhishek

Hi @Jonoh-FW:

I do think it is worth a shot. We get more complaints about prefs/caches-related erratic behavior after a major update.

Next time, instead of recreating your shortcuts, you can copy them from version to another:

Okay. I'll try it and let you know.

Kind regards,

Hi @Jonoh-FW:

Which version of Ventura? You want to be on 13.6 or 13.6.1. (if you have to upgrade, be sure that you don't advertently upgrade to Sonoma though. It is still not supported. You'll need to scroll all the way down to the bottom of the updates to see the Ventura update.)

And how did you reset your preferences? Did you use the keyboard shortcut at the top of the article or did you go through the more detailed steps in the second part of the article? If you haven't done the detailed steps yet, I would give them a shot. If you're nervous about deleting the preference files, you can just rename them—that is covered in the article.

Thanks very much Barb.

I used the keyboard shortcuts to reset preferences. It totally wiped them but I went back into preferences and set them up the way I like them again. I've reset preferences a number of times on earlier versions so I'm okay with doing it. Also I have a saved workspace, so that's helpful.

I am a bit nervous about the caches thing. I will do it if you think it will help the issue I'm having. Surely though In Design 2023 would be doing the same thing if the caches were a problem, wouldn't it?

Hi @Jonoh-FW:

What operating system is your Mac using? Did you try rebuilding cache/preferences?

Hi Barb,

Thanks for your response. I am running MacOS Ventura. I went through the article you sent me. I had already reset my preferences on In Design 2024 yesterday. It did nothing to improve the issue I described. I didn't try rebuilding the cache as you describe in your article. What mystifies me is that I'm now using In Design 18.4 (2023) on the same computer (not running both a the same time) but 2023 doesn't have that issue. It's smooth, fast, no spinning beach balls.
