Increasingly fed-up with the endless bugs - am I alone?

Hi all, I've been using InDesign almost since it came out and have always thought it a brilliant programme, but I'm getting increasingly fed-up with the endless bugs which seem to be almost daily now.

I was wondering if anyone has experienced either of these lately, and whether anyone has any fixes or workarounds?

1 - text disappears at random, sometimes a word or sentence at a time, sometimes en-masse, not reappearing until I hit the TAB button to clear /return menus, or otherwise use some workspace setting. This is happening on different machines, with fonts both cloud and local.

2 - I'm finding that even docs I've only just created, using the latest updated version of InDesign, then won't re-open on the same machine they were shut down on only minutes earlier, because they 'were created with a newer version of InDesign'.

In both cases, this obviously stops me in my tracks, usually at a point where production deadlines are bearing down on me.

WTF Mr Adobe? Get it sorted, cos it's not like we're not paying you guys each and every month to provide us with working software!!!

And while I'm at it, you need to sort this equally aggravating CMD+Z issue - mine too will only Undo ov er two steps - and yes, it's deleting the History cache, so there's no way round it.

So frustrated I can't tell you.

Apologies for ranting.

Hi @Riffman64 and @lana_5543,

I completely understand how frustrating this is, and I really appreciate you taking the time to call out what you're seeing. For the text disappearing while editing, we do have a bug already logged and the team is actively working on a fix. You can track the discussion and updates here: https://adobe.ly/45ARWgL.

For the Undo behavior where the history seems to clear itself unexpectedly, this is also a known critical issue that's currently under active investigation by the team. More details and updates are being tracked in this thread: https://adobe.ly/4qb93hr.

Regarding the message that files "were created with a newer version of InDesign", could you please review this post and let me know if your situation matches what's described there: https://adobe.ly/4svdDsv. If it doesn't seem similar, then as recommended by the expert, please confirm whether you currently have multiple InDesign versions installed at the same time and whether the file might be created in a newer version and then opened in an older one. It would also help if you could share the exact InDesign version you're on and your OS details.

Thanks again for raising these concerns. Please let me know your observations and any updates to take this further.

I agree with you, my software keeps showing "unexpected error," when I do anything from exporting, saving as a older file to try to work on a OLDER version, and when I duplicate spreads. 😕😕

1. With GPU rendering? Turn it off

2. That is a user error, make sure you are in the correct version of InDesign (or delete older versions)

Thanks for the swift response:

1 - GPU rendering isn't switched on on the machine I'm using, so I'm still stumped on that for now.

2 - it's not user error, but I have just discovered that the IT security policy at my institution doesn't permit routine software updates, which may be the root cause of the issue. Will have to investigate further on that front.
