Question

Indd file opens but stays in background

Here's an odd one that's been going on for a year or so. I've already tried Adobe support and Apple support and neither help. They just point the finger at each other and Adobe support asks for permissions for everything under the sun including your first born and still doesn't fix the issue.

Here's the issue (and it's random) that only happens with InDesign. I open a file and it doesn't matter if it's via double clicking the file in the folder or opening it via the menu. InDesign goes and opens the file but only about 99% of the way. It doesn't make the file the front most app. It menu bar where you see the file name stays greyed out. You can move things on the file but that's pretty much it. Only way to get it "fixed" is to close the file and open it again however many times it takes to come to front. On a normal day it would happen like maybe one out of every ten or so files. Today which prompted me to post here it's happened on every single file I've opened.

Anyone have any idea on how to fix this? I know it's not a permissions thing. It's gotta be something on Adobe's end as no other app on my Mac Studio is doing this. It's frustrating.

It's definitely not a known common issue.

What versions of InDesign and macOS?

macOS 14.4.1 and InDesign 19.4.0.63, so most current in both but this has been going on for at least a year now.

How much RAM and spare hard disk capacity do you have?

Have you tried resetting the InDesign settings back to the factory defaults?
