InDesign 18.5 crashes when Glyphs are selected

This seems a hard reproducable error. I have tried 3 times now on two different files. I open InDesign, select Type -> Glyphs and it immediately crashes.

What is even more annoying is when I reopen the (unchanged file) it warns me it may be damaged - which is usual - so I always save it again and then quite InDesign. It then hangs seemingly indefinitely so I have to force quit it.

Correct answer JohnCNGI

It was the file as it happened on multiple files, however deleting the preferences seems to have resolved it.

Thanks

If you are on a Mac using Ventura make sure that you are updated to version 13.5.2. There have been many reports of problems with InDesign 18.5 with earlier versions of Ventura. Updating the OS seems to fix the issues for many users.

If a document is not behaving well then try

File>Export

Choose IDML

Open the IDML in InDesign
Save the file as a new InDesign file with a new name
See if the issue persists.

Try resetting your preferences:

Windows: Start InDesign, and then press Shift+Ctrl+Alt. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files.
macOS: While pressing Shift+Option+Command+Control, start InDesign. Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files.
A dialog will appear asking to delete the InDesign Preferences, select 'Yes' on this dialog.
