InDesign 18.5 hangs without internet access

Hello All,

I see a lot of issues being reported with InDesign 18.5 not opening and similiar issues. I faced a different issue that ultimatley led me to uninstall it. What happened for me is that if I have internet connected and then launch InDesign all things worked well and if during this session if the internet was disconnected everything remained working. The issue occured when InDesign was launched with internet disconnected, then you could create/open a single document after that if you tried opening or creating a new document nothing would happen and InDesign would remain stuck. All menu option would be greyed out and you would eventually get a Modal alert error. I checked the activity monitor to make sense of what was happening and I see 18.5 was spawning a process called something like "InDesign Networking" which seems to be missing in 18.4, could that be the cause of the issue?

My OS is macOS 12.6.8

I reinstalled multiple times and finally reverted to 18.4

Hi Manan,

Interesting and seems to lead credence to my hunch that this is a problem due to some kind on an "E.T. Phone Home" call introduced with the "Save To Cloud" added as beta in 18.5 and announced as one of the main features of InDesign 2024 (19).

Hi Oliver

I was reading all the posts related to 18.5 issues and saw your observations as well. I think your were on a WIN machine so I may have lost your findings when thinking about my own but not it seems a plausible explanation. This would need to fixed/done any other way, constant internet access is still not possbile for everyone.

Hi Manan,

Yes, I am on a Windows machine.
And our internet is very moderate.
