Question

InDesign 20.0 not packaging to original folder even after following all the steps found online

Hi All,

i'm suffering from a weird problem: nothing wants to use the original folder exept the export command. When i try to replace an image the program navigates me to the last used folder. Same when i try to package a document.

I've tried to delete all the preferences. ALL of them. I've emptied all the cache. ALL. Uninstalled and reinstalled InDesign: the newly installed app tried to package into the last used folder (!?). The Preferences>File Handling> Default Relink folder menu does nothing. I can switch it but nothing happens...

Same issue with other apps (Illustrator, PS, etc.).

I feel i'm stucked with the problem. Please HELP!

Regards,

Balazs

And it's a Mac version on macOS Sonoma 14.7.1.

Well, all I know is that I can't reproduce this issue in either InDesign or Photoshop here on Ventura. Both Package and Save As commands point to the current document's folder.

Did your CC 2024 apps behave differently before installing 2025, and do your CC 2024 apps still behave differently? (You can reinstall them from the Creative Cloud app, if needed.)

Also, is it possible that you're using a 3rd-party utility that affects this behavior?

Note: I do use Default Folder, but I doubt it makes a difference in this case. Not sure. You may want to try Default Folder just to be sure (which is, in my view, an essential utility on every Mac anyway): https://www.stclairsoft.com/DefaultFolderX/

Dear Leo,

thank you for the quick reply! 🙂

Here are the answers:

Did your CC 2024 apps behave differently before installing 2025, and do your CC 2024 apps still behave differently? (You can reinstall them from the Creative Cloud app, if needed.) --» yes it's with me since years but i never had time to solve it. Once i've tried to contact Adobe Support, but it was as useless as all the other solutions.

Also, is it possible that you're using a 3rd-party utility that affects this behavior? --» no, i'm not using anything like that. And all the apss are genuine.

I'm clueless...

Regars,

Balazs
