Question

Indesign 20.1 and 20.2 crash when pressing Command W on a Mac.

As per the title, using keyboard shortcuts is second nature and Command+W to close a window has been crashing indesign ever since updating to 20.1 and 20.2. I deleted my preferences which didn't help.
This morning I uninstalled 20.2 and reinstalled 20.0.1 and the problem has gone away.

Are you using Typeface for font management? I am and one of the replies above infers that could be the culprit.

I'm still using 20.0.1 and it's working as normal, if that's any help.

I use fontbook, although Font explorer X pro is still installed. Interestingly in doesn't seem to crash if I close a window via the red dot in the corner?...strange

Hi John,

What version of macOS are you using?

Hi Mike,

I'm using Seqouia  15.3.2. I noticed that InDesign is still Intel, with no dedicated Apple Silicon version.

I'm a bit OCD with making sure I'm using the latest versions, but I've been running InDesign 20.0.1 for a few hours and all is well so far. Obviously there's something weird going on for me, but I don't mind so much when I can get on with my job!

Cheers,

John.

Yes, the bug you describe appears to be introduced in InDesign 20.1. There are several threads about this issue. Although most users don't seem to be affected.
