InDesign 20.1 Won't Open Specific Documents

Question

Hi all,

I recently updated to InDesign 20.1 from InDesign 19.5.1, and the 20.1 version won't open some InDesign documents that have all been created in the last week on the 19.5.1 version.

Has anyone else experienced this and figured out a solution?

Hi @Riley24033018m3oz,

Is there any error (share screenshot) coming up while opening it in the latest version? Are the files stored locally on the system drive, external drive, in a remote location, or in the cloud? Would you mind sharing any one of the affected files (which you see not opening in 20.1 and was created in 19.5.1) with us to test?

If the file, is confidential, you can share it via DM over the community.

If you haven't already, try saving the affected files as IDML and then try opening the IDML file in the latest version. Let us know if that is helping.

Note: To create IDML, you can again download the 19.5.1 version from 19.5.1 from the Creative Cloud Desktop application (by going to the apps section > InDesign > Other versions > InDesign 19.5.1 > Install)
