InDesign 20.3/20.3.1 crashes on copy-paste between open documents

I can copy maybe 2 times from one open document to another open document before InDesign shuts down.
It does not crash when copying within the same document.

I have tried resetting preferences, disabled all in clip-board handling, but it is still the same.

It occurs in random documents, so not the same either document, picture or elements.

Hi @riegens,

Thanks so much for following up and for sending the files over. I checked again, and I can now see a crash report from May 21st linked to your community ID. That helped a lot!

I can confirm that this is a known issue, and a bug has already been logged. The product team is currently in the testing phase and actively investigating the root cause. Your input has really helped move this along.

I'll keep an eye out and make sure to update you as soon as I hear anything new from the team.

Appreciate your patience and help with this!

Abhishek

Hi @riegens,

Thanks a lot for the detailed updates, really appreciate it. I checked again but still couldn't find any crash reports associated with your community email. Could you please confirm if you're using the same email for the crash reports as the one registered on the community? If you're using a different one, feel free to DM it to me so I can look it up on our end.

Also, if possible, it would be super helpful if you could share a sample files with which you can consistently reproduce the crash. In my tests on version 20.3.1, I wasn't able to reproduce the issue, so I'd love to check using your files. Please package the files before sharing, and you can use any public cloud transfer service like Google Drive, Dropbox, etc., to send the link. If the files are confidential, feel free to send them via DM. Reference: https://adobe.ly/434EpgH

Looking forward to your update.

I have send you a message with link to download the catalogue for testing. The link is to WeTransfer.

I can confirm, that it is the same email used for this, that I used for the crashreports.

Hi @riegens,

Thanks for sharing the details about the crash when copy-pasting between open documents. To help troubleshoot this further, could you please confirm the version of InDesign and the details of your operating system? Also, are the files you're working on stored locally on your drive, or are they being accessed remotely, like from an external hard drive or a network location?

Do you recall when this issue started? For example, did it begin after any recent updates or changes on your system or InDesign settings?

I tried checking for any crash reports linked to your community email but didn't find any. It would be really helpful if you could submit a crash report through the Adobe crash reporter dialog box, making sure to include your email address there. Once submitted, please share that email with me via DM on the community, so I can check the logs and help get this investigated. Reference: https://adobe.ly/4ktkZbg

Meanwhile, if possible, try testing InDesign in Safe Mode to see if the issue still happens. Here are links for starting in Safe Mode for Windows and macOS:

macOS: https://adobe.ly/43o4sOW

Looking forward to your update.

InDesign version 20.3.1
MacOS Sequoia 15.5
The files are stored locally on my mac.

It occured after I updated InDesign to 20.3.1 - not an issue before. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling InDesign, but that did nothing.

I have submitted several times via the shutdown dialogue - I will make sure to include my email next time. I cannot do it right now, but I will write as soon as I can.

@riegens

You shouldn't be pposting your private contact details.

If you want to get in touch with someone privately - please click their nickname - then you can send them a private message.

About your problem - you can downgrade to the previous minor version - 20.3 or even lower.

Also, crashing might occure because one of your files is damaged / corrupted.

Please try IDMLing on both - export as IDML, open, save with a new name - do not overwrite your original file.

Then open those new files and try copying again.

If it still won't work - do this on both: create a new, blank document with the same page size, then move all pages from your document to the new on, at its beginning - then delete last, empty page.
