InDesign 2019 not relinking at the same percentage scale

Since the update every time I relink or replace an image (.eps .ai .psd .jpeg etc) instead of retaining the scale and position it drops it at a random scale. This is particularly frustrating as I'm trying to update colour variations of quite complex images that have to be in the same exact place.

I've double checked that under Preferences > File Handling > Preserve Image Dimensions When Relinking is ticked. I've also tried the linked image options when importing the new image and tried all the variables there to no effect.

I need to get this work done today so any help is gratefully received!

Thanks Dan

Correct answer Steve Werner

This shouldn't be turned on in InDesign CC 2019, but make sure this setting is NOT turned on:

Preferences > General > Content-Aware Fit > Make Content-aware Fit the default frame fitting option.

So far the following method seems to be working. I won't know for sure until we start converting more of our CS5 files.

1. open the CS5 doc in CC19

2. export as idml

3. open is CS5 and relink

4. export from CS5 as idml

5. open in CC19 and save

6. relinks fine after this point when the link is modified

I'm going to have to test this with our multipage files but it worked with the single page document for testing purposes.

My apps and Mac OS are totally up-to-date. Also happening to my coworker who is on a pc. I'm wondering if this is more of an issue from having an original CS5 document and having to convert it to CC 2019?

Hi Karen,

you could also save your document to IDML and open it as InDesign document.

Maybe that will get rid of any small corruption or oddity of the document that started with CS5

( if this really is the cause of the problem ).

Uwe

Hi nicka70711825 ,

then we need a test document and two test images to see into the issue.

You could use Dropbox or a similar service and post a link here.

Or you could send me a personal message with the link if the contents is confidential.

( Just hover over my name and press Message )

Regards,
Uwe

Hi nicka70711825 ,

before relinking check your preferences.

Turn off Content-Aware Fit.

Then relink.

Uwe
