Question

InDesign 2020 slows to a crawl when trying to edit text in a certain lesson.

Hey all,

I posted a video where I discuss and show my issue.

https://vimeo.com/398128691

One thing I haven't mentioned in the video is that it seems to be universal to whatever font I try to edit. But also not all of the time. It's very bizarre.

Thanks in advance for any help given.

It's hard to pinpoint the exact reasons, but here are some things to consider or try:

  • Have you tried reinstalling a clean version of the font? If it's font specific, it could be a corrupt font.
  • Is it just in that file, or that font in all files? If it's just that file, the file could be corrupted. Try exporting an .idml file and opening that back up. It will recreate a new file that may have the corruption fixed.
  • Are there any graphics giving you problems? Maybe try going to View > Display Performance > Typical Display to speed things up.
  • Try disabling Live Preflight: At the bottom of the window, click the arrow next to errors and uncheck Enable Preflight for All Documents (shown below).

I hope one of these things helps. Keep us updated after trying them out.

Hey Dan,

Thanks for your reply. I think it might have been a font issue. I deleted all fonts on my system (except the ones that came pre-installed), rebooted the computer, and opened up 3 InDesign documents and all of them had no lag, as I expect.

I'm getting tired so I'll have to try it again tomorrow, but hopefully, it was just a corrupted font that got installed somewhere along the way.
