InDesign 2021 Arabic language paragraph direction

Hello

I'm currently copy/pasting Arabic into my InDesign 2021 document. Everything is set up and characters rendering correctly, but the only thing missing is the Paragraph Direction Selection button normaally found in the Paragraph panel. Once selected this allows the Arabic text to read Right to Left.

Can you tell me where this button has moved/can be found?

You need to install the InDesign version with ME support. You need not to unistall the version in your language. Then, in paragraph styles you need to choose an Adobe World Composer.

Hi, thanks for your messages.

Yes, just re installed Indesign using ME setting and the button appears! Thank you!

I still have a problem though...

When I copy/paste Arabic text from Word into my text box in InDesign, it doesn't flow from bottom right to top left. Is there a setting that I can apply to the text box that would fix this and where is it located?

I don't recommend to Copy/Paste text from Word into InDesign. I strongly recommend we use the File > Place option in order to run the Microsoft Word Filter automatically, hence allowing this filter to "translate" the codes and reduce any differences to the minimum.

With regard to your second question. The Story Panel is what you're looking for to switch Text-frame direction. Story Panel is tucked here… Window > Type & Tables > Story.

To use Story panel, simply select a text frame(s), then click on the Right-to-Left tory direction button at the bottom of the panel.

Have you set up your InDesign for ME support - or is it EN interface ?
