InDesign 2022 fails to open older files with broken links
We recently upgraded to CC 2022 (currently on InDesign 2022/17.0.1) and a few members of the team are unable to open some older InDesign files (typically with modified dates 2016 and prior). These files open with no issues in the most current version of InDesign 2021, so we tried opening the files with 2021, saving them up from whatever prior version they were in, and then opening with InDesign 2022. The files still crash. We have found that if we open these older files in 2021 and make sure that we repair all missing/modifed links, we are able to open those files with no issues in 2022. More recent files (dates modified after 2017) open with no issues regardless of the links status.
I'm hoping others may have addressed this situation so I can coordinate with our IT department to come up with a solution better than juggling two versions of InDesign on the same machine.
Things we have tried:
The older files typically crash while InDesign is loading the links, so we changed preferences to prevent InDesign from searching for links at launch has not solved the problem; we also turned off preflight in preferences to rule out its missing links check.
The issue impacts users who are working remotely, and accessing our company's servers using DirectAccess (not a traditional VPN). At least one user on the team is located at our HQ, and has no problems opening any file from any version in InDesign 2022. Remote users have tried copying the files to a local disk location and have the same results as when files are opened from the server.
We have cleared preferences and uninstalled/reinstalled several times.
