InDesign 2023 crashes when adding a chapter to my book.

I was attempting to add a chapter to a book I am building and it crashes when I attempt to do so. I am using an iMac M1 with an iOS of 11.7.1. The computer posseses 16g RAM and 1TB SSD. Even with one app only open it crashes. I tried to rebuild the book and it crashes right away. It seems obvious some aspect within the software is no longer working properly. I sent the report to Adobe, but I am not sure when I will hear back. This book is to have 33 chapters and I am desparate to build it in this format. Anyone else have this issue? Is there a particular file in the adobe library that needs to be removed so it can run clean again? Perplexed and I don't want to be paralyzed with this issue. I have other books that I also want to put together now as well. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you,   Kevin

Thanks, Manan. Amazingly, after ifnoring it for a few hours and doing other related things for the book, when I went back to reinsert a new chapter it took it! I have since been working with it quite happily. Maybe 🤔 🤔, I accidently hit the SHAZAAM key on my keyboard and it fixed it!(LOL). Whatever honestly happened I do not know, but it is “all well” with me now. Thank you for your response and have a very blessed day! -Kevin

As suggested you will have to take a sytemetic approach here. First thing is to identify which file is causing the crash. Correcting it via export to IDML could be one option but that could create layout issues as well so see if works for your case or not. If it doesn't then try identifying which page in the document is causing trouble by removing pages and keep on drilling down to the smallest possible item which is easier for you to recreate. You could also copy over the page contents to a new document and then use this new document.

Can you open all of the chapters without any issues? Try exporting each chapter as a IDML and saving with a new name. Trying starting with a new book file.
