InDesign 2023 Crashing since launch

InDesign 2023 has been crashing multiple times a day for me since updating. I just ran the most recent update and am still experiencing crashes. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to when it happens, it's usually at random. I am a Mac user and have their most current software as well.

Is anyone else having this issue?

I am getting this about twice a day. I am using version 19.1 (latest version) on my new iMac. It will just quit for no reason. Often it does save what I have done, but I can lose up to 10 minutes of work at times. Another wierd thing is that about once a day it will just slow down, pause then catch up at high speed. Usually have to do a complete restart of my Mac at least once a day.

Hello @HARSHIKA_VERMA

Thank you for your response! I am still experiencing this issue, I have been sending reports using the email that I use in this community.

My InDesign is crashing while working, not usually on launch within both locally-stored and cloud-stored documents.

Any help or insight you have is greatly appreciated!

Thank you,

Anya

Hi @anyawitmer even when working on a locally stored document - do you have any linked items (images, etc) stored on a cloud/external service connected to the document?

Hello, anyawitmer,

in case the resetting method mentioned by @Kevin Stohlmeyer does not work we need more information.

What Mac hardware do you use? How much RAM?

Are third-party plug-ins installed with your InDesign?

Are scripts running in the background?

Are you getting error messages? What do they state?

Are your InDesign files stored locally? Or are you working over a network (cloud-based, home NAS, remotely, etc.)?

Regards

Stephan

Hello mk-will,

I currently use a 2021 Macbook Pro with an M1 Pro Chip, 10-Core CPU, and 1TB SSD. I also use an iMac with a 2TB SSD but I don't have the other specs accessible at the moment. I have the same issue on both computers.

I don't have any third-party plug-ins and no scripts are running in the background. The error message I get is the generic "InDesign has crashed, would you like to send a report?". I mainly work with files stored on Dropbox, however, even with locally-stored files, I experience the same issue.

Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated, thank you in advance!

Hello, @anyawitmer,

so you can start InDesign 2023, work for quite some time and then InDesign crashes. Corrrect?

And this happens using two different Macs?

Can be an old font (Do you use old Type-1-fonts?), a faulty system-driver (Do you have more than one monitor connected? Do you have external hardware connected such as USB-hub, USB-drives? If so, disconnect all external hardware and connect only mouse and keyboard) or anything else.

The best you can do is to share the crash report as @HARSHIKA_VERMA suggested.

Regards

Stephan

Have you tried resetting your InDesign Preferences?

https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/setting-preferences.html

While pressing Shift+Opt+Cmd+Ctrl, start InDesign.

Click Yes when asked if you want to delete preference files.
