InDesign 2024 Won't Save Files - All Options Grayed Out

I recently updated to InDesign 2024.  I have a lot of problems with InDesign 2024.

ONE

When opening an existing file, it shows that the file has been open under "Recent" on the home dashboard.  Unless I create a new file and toggle between screens, there is no way to actually access the file.  It's almost like it's hidden.

TWO

Any file that I open, or if I create a new file cannot be saved.  All of the options are grayed out.

THREE

None of my keyboard shortcuts work.  CMD+W to close, Tab to toggle between screen displays, V to bring up the selector tool, etc.

I have never had this issue and have tried restarting.

Thank you for your help!

Erika

Hi @erikag67038048:

What version of Ventura? Be sure you are on the latest version of Ventura (without without updating to Sonoma). It's 13.6.1. You have to scroll all the way past the promoted Sonoma update to see the links to update Ventura at the very bottom.

Are you on Sonoma? InDesign is not compatible with Sonoma - you need to downgrade / roll back.

I am on macOS Ventura.  I've been using InDesign 2023 in the meantime as that still works.

Yeh, lots of issues with 2024 and systems.

You can log your experiences on the bug forums where it's most likely to be looked at and fixed.

Problems like this can occur when updating to a major new InDesign version. It can often solve problems if your restore your InDesign preferences and caches. Try this:

Steve - I tried this and it worked.... for only a little bit.  I tried to isolate what I clicked to make it start acting up and couldn't pinpoint one thing.

My initial thought was that maybe my saved Workspaces are causing an issue, but sometimes it would be fine and others it wouldn't.  If I deleted those two files, each time I everything behaved as it should for only a little while.

Any other thoughts?

try to create a new user account (System Settings > Users & Groups) and run InDesign there. will it make a difference? in any case, it looks like some other users also experience weird issues with InDesign 2024 for which there are no explanations yet.
