InDesign 2025 not allowing folders to be moved or renamed

Ever since the upgrade to InDesign 2025, after I open an InDesign file, close it and exit, and then need to rename the file or the folder it is in, or try to move the folder to a different location, I get the dialogue box:  "The action can't be completed because the folder or file in it is open in another program. Close the folder or file and try again". The folder and file remain in this state until the computer is rebooted. This does not happen with Illustrator 2025, or with Photoshop 2025 files and folders. This did not happen in InDesign 2024.

I can copy these files into new folders and rename the copies, as long as they are not opened in InDesign 2025. It is pretty clear to me that InDesign [probably it's "Open Recent" file list] is locking these folders & files in place with something like a hidden database file, or similar.

This is very difficult since most of my work is "Work in Progress" and until I get part numbers and drafting numbers need for my files and folders to be renamed, I do as much layout work as possible until then.

This is InDesign 2025 on Windows 10 Enterprise 22H2, i7-12850HX, 32GB RAM

Hi, sorry for my bad English...

Same problem: after finishing a job I exit InDesign (2025, but the problem also occurred in version 2024) and I can't move the folder where the file I just created/modified is located...

I noticed that if I delete the "Adobe Crash Processor.exe" process the problem disappears and I can make the moves or deletions I need, so it seems to be the culprit.

The "Adobe Crash Processor.exe" process is then restarted the next time I use InDesign...

I have a workaround: close and reopen InDesign and the folder can be deleted.

Hi @Joseph307250199w1k,

Thank you for sharing your experience with InDesign 2025. It sounds frustrating to deal with file and folder restrictions after closing your documents.

Could you please check the Task Manager to see if any InDesign documents are still open in any application after you've closed them? If you find any instances still running, please end the task for those documents and then test if the issue persists.

Additionally, it would be helpful if you could share a screen recording demonstrating the issue. This will allow us to better understand what you're encountering.

Lastly, can you confirm if this problem occurs with a particular file or with all InDesign files? This information will help us troubleshoot more effectively.

Thank you for your patience, and I look forward to your response!

Best,

I have searched the Task Manager "Process" tab when this first started happening and have continued to check in the "Processes" and the "Details" tab for InDesign still running, and it is not...
Sorry but I do not have a screen camera app.

Hi @Joseph307250199w1k,

Thank you for checking the Task Manager and for your prompt reply.

Since you mentioned that InDesign isn’t showing as still running, I recommend trying to record your screen to demonstrate the issue. You can follow the instructions in this link: [How to Record Your Screen in Windows 11](https://adobe.ly/3YJAEtR;

This will help us better understand the behavior you're experiencing with the file and folder restrictions.

Thank you for your cooperation, and I look forward to your findings!

Best,
