InDesign 2025 cannot be displayed on multiple monitors. I start InDesign on my laptop but cannot move it to the connected monitor. It works with Photoshop, for example. What could be the reason for this?

Greetings @eberhardh588_3660,

I appreciate the update. I am currently discussing this behavior with the product team and will respond to you as soon as I have additional information.

Thank you for your assistance in getting this tested.

Abhishek

Thank you for the latest update 21.0.1.

The issue is cleared and resizing to another monitor now works again.

Thanks for looking after your users.

I have the same problem. Since the last big update, I am not able to stretch Id across two monitors. Previously I could do it. I have no problem with Ai and Ps.

What has changed?

Hi @eberhardh588_3660,

Thanks for reaching out and sharing the details. Could you please confirm if you are on 21.0 version of InDesign and which version of Windows you're using and whether this happens on both monitors or only when you try to stretch InDesign across them?

Please try the following steps to see if it helps:
Right-click on your desktop and select Display settings. Make sure both monitors are correctly identified and that the Multiple displays option is set to Extend these displays.
Next, check that your graphics drivers are fully updated by downloading the latest version from your computer manufacturer's website. Also, make sure Windows 11 is up-to-date by going to Settings > Windows Update and selecting Check for updates.
If the issue persists, try adjusting the scaling under Settings > System > Display > Scale and layout and test different scaling values for both monitors.

Additionally, disconnect the second monitor, relaunch InDesign, and then reconnect it to see if that restores window movement. You may also want to review this similar thread that discusses related behavior: Unable to move the objects correctly if the external monitor is connected.

Looking forward to your update.

I have the same problem with InDesign. I work with a MacBook Pro M2 Max - Mac OS 14.6.1 (23G93) with two external 27” monitor.

This is how I solve the problem for now: System Settings > Displays > change from “Extended display” to “Mirror for Built-in Display” and the InDesign window unlocks!

Then switch from “Mirror for Built-in Display” to “Stop mirroring”.

Are the monitors the same resolution? If you monitor is 4K but your external is less, I sometimes have problems moving the screen. What happens if you resize the ID windows before moving it over?

Attached is a screen shot of the display. Even with just one monitor/laptop display, I have the problem that I can't position the InDesign window anywhere on the display. It gets stuck in the top left corner. As you can see, it's not a problem with the Photoshop window.

Photoshop also works with a second monitor. Even with a stretched desktop.

Hi @Robert36875432qgwn,

Thanks for the screenshot! Based on the issue you're describing, it seems like the InDesign window is not behaving as expected, even on a single monitor setup.

To help us narrow down the cause, could you try the following steps?

1. Hold down **Ctrl + Alt + Shift** (Windows) or **Cmd + Option + Shift** (Mac) while launching InDesign. This will reset preferences and might help resolve any window behavior issues. Reference: https://adobe.ly/4hEWpmT

2. Ensure that the display scaling settings in your OS are set to 100%. Sometimes, higher scaling can cause window positioning issues.

3. Make sure your graphics drivers are up to date, as outdated drivers can sometimes cause display issues in Adobe apps.

Let me know how it goes after trying these steps, and feel free to share any other details that might help.

Looking forward to your update!

Best,
Abhishek Rao

Hi @Robert36875432qgwn,

Thanks for reaching out! To better understand the issue with InDesign 2025 not displaying on multiple monitors, could you please confirm if other Creative Cloud desktop applications are working fine and displaying correctly on your dual monitors?

In the meantime, you can try the following steps to see if it resolves the issue:

1. Right-click on your desktop, select "Display settings," and ensure that the monitors are set up correctly (e.g., as "Extend these displays").

2. Reset Preferences of InDesign. You can do this by holding down `Ctrl + Alt + Shift` (Windows) while starting InDesign. Reference: https://adobe.ly/3AmbDMX

3. Ensure your graphics drivers are up to date, as outdated drivers can cause display problems.

Let me know how it goes, and feel free to share any additional details!

Best,
Abhishek Rao

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.
