InDesign 2025: Undo History Limited to a Few Steps / Ctrl+Z Stops Working After Multiple Actions

    Hi @2587887341y9

Sorry to hear about the experience. Could you please confirm the operating system you're using?

I would also recommend updating to at least version 21.2, although the latest available version is 21.4, and then checking whether the issue still persists. This behavior was identified as a bug and has been addressed in InDesign 2026 version 21.2.0.30 as well as the InDesign 2025 LTS release 20.5.2.078.

You can also refer to the related UserVoice discussion here for additional context and updates:
    https://indesign.uservoice.com/forums/601180-adobe-indesign-bugs/suggestions/50813147--id-4274243-indesign-clearing-undo-stack-frequent

One thing to note is that on version 21.2, we had a separate issue where the problem could still persist on macOS. You can find more details here:
    https://community.adobe.com/questions-671/indesign-21-2-undo-greyed-out-and-history-panel-blank-on-macos-tahoe-and-ventura-1551926?postid=7543173#post7543173

If you're using macOS and continue to experience the issue after updating, the product team would like to review the diagnostic logs mentioned in the response linked above to assist with further investigation. Please share those logs with us, and we'll be happy to take a closer look.

    Looking forward to your update.

    Abhishek

Why didn’t you move to InDesign 2026 and what version did you upgrade from? Also, as Mike points out make sure you are fully updated and that your operating system is also fully patched.

    Bonjour 24601,

Did you update your InDesign 2025 to version 20.5.3 which is the latest and last patched version of that year?
