InDesign 2026 - Document not opening and stuck on loading

Hi everyone,

I'm having trouble opening an InDesign document and keep getting the loading circle (‘the wheel of doom’) for an extended period, with the file never opening.

So far, I have:

  • Updated InDesign to the latest version (v21.5)
  • Restarted my MacBook
  • Tried re-opening the file directly from OneDrive
  • Downloaded a fresh copy to my desktop
  • Tried opening the backup files, but they are experiencing the same issue

Unfortunately, none of these steps have resolved the problem 😣

I'd really appreciate any advice or suggestions on what else I could try. The project deadline is at the end of this month, and I'm becoming increasingly worried that I may have lost months of work!!

    Thanks, Bob. All working again for me now! I re-linked OneDrive on my Mac, and my files were able to open this way. The following video helped below:

    Did this happen before the update to 21.5? Is is just this file? If it’s in a OneDrive folder, make sure the folder is fully synced not cloud only. What operating system are you running? How much RAM?
