INDESIGN 2026 Font Loading on start

I’ve been working on medium sized branded documents (20-30) pages and every time, EVERY TIME, I open indesign I have to troubleshoot the activated Adobe fonts. Every time I open the document - the font’s aren’t activated, so I have to spend sometimes 30 minutes trying to activate them by restarting both Indesgn and Adobe CC. I find this system and process ridiculously clunky and sub-par to the price users pay for CC.

Why is this happening and what is the fix?

    Hi @Mitchala,

I'm sorry to hear about your experience and thank you for reaching out.

To help us isolate the issue, please try the suggestion shared by the Community Expert and let us know the outcome. Also, could you confirm your InDesign version (Help > About InDesign) and your operating system and version?

In the meantime, please verify that Auto-activate Adobe Fonts is enabled (InDesign > Preferences > File Handling) and check Window > Utilities > Background Tasks to see whether font activation starts or gets stuck. In the Creative Cloud Desktop app, confirm that the affected fonts are shown as Activated under Adobe Fonts with no sync errors. You can also try turning Adobe Fonts off and back on from Creative Cloud Desktop > Preferences > Services, wait for the fonts to resync, and then relaunch InDesign.

Additionally, please let us know whether this happens with all InDesign documents or only this one, share the names of the affected fonts (Adobe Fonts or locally installed), and, if possible, provide a screenshot of the Missing Fonts dialog. Also, check whether the same fonts are available in Illustrator or Photoshop, and whether duplicate local versions of the fonts are installed. Finally, please try clearing the font cache by following the steps here and let us know how it goes: https://helpx.adobe.com/fonts/kb/troubleshoot-fonts-illustrator-indesign.html.

Looking forward to hearing back your observations.

    Abhishek

Have you tried signing out of your Adobe account in the Creative Cloud desktop app and then signing back in again. As unsophisticated as that process sounds it often solves problems with Adobe Font activation.
