InDesign 2026: Unable to Resize Split Windows from Top Tab Area in 2-Up View

I just updated to InDesign 2026 and I'm struggling with the change to resizing split windows. When I'm in the 2-up vertical view (which I use all the time to compare documents), I used to be able to click on the space where the tabs of the windows met at the top and just drag left and right to resize.

It looks like I can't do that anymore—I have to click down at the bottom of the windows and hit just the right place in order to resize them (and then it does some automatic resizing first, which is incredibly annoying). Does anyone know if it's possible to get the previous resizing ability back? The new way takes longer and is much clumsier, especially as I am constantly resizing back and forth.

Are you using Split Window or 2-Up Vertically?

Either way, both resize as expected for me.

I am arranging them 2-up vertically. Sorry, I didn’t realize “split windows” was specifically something else. I wasn’t sure what else to call it. You can see in this screen recording that the resizing arrows don’t show up when hovering over the tabs at the top. https://imgur.com/a/zbWi2ob

    Hi @Adelaide7719,

Thanks for reaching out, I understand how disruptive this can be. Could you please confirm the exact InDesign 2026 version you're using, for example 21.3 or another, along with your OS details. I tested this on Windows 11 with InDesign 21.3 and was able to resize from both the top tab area and the bottom splitter as expected.

In the meantime, please try resetting InDesign preferences using the steps here: https://adobe.ly/3R5pj6Q and check if that helps. If the issue persists, please rename the CEP folder to CEP.old from /Library/Application Support/Adobe on Mac or C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe on Windows. If needed, also rename the UXP folder to UXP.old from /Library/Application Support/Adobe and ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe on Mac, or from C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe and C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe on Windows.

If it still continues, please share a short screen recording and confirm if you are using an external monitor and whether the issue is limited to it.

Looking forward to your update so I can take this further.

Thank you for your suggestions. I’m using ID 21.3 and I’m on a Mac running Tahoe 26.4.1. I have reset my preferences, renamed the CEP and UXP folders, and checked if the issue is limited to my external monitor--it is not. It happens on my Macbook monitor as well. Here is a brief screen recording which shows that the resize tool does not appear when I hover over the top tab area in the split windows view. https://imgur.com/a/zbWi2ob

    Hi @Adelaide7719,

Thanks for sharing the details and the recording.

Could you please confirm if you’re using a custom workspace. If yes, please try switching to a default workspace (Window Menu > Workspace) and check if the behavior changes there. Also, try toggling the Application Frame on and off from Window > Application Frame and see if that makes any difference.

Additionally, please try resetting the workspace using the steps here: https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/customizing-workspace.html and test again.

Let me know how it goes after trying this.
