InDesign 21.2 on macOS Tahoe 26.2: Undo Greyed Out and Cursor Tool Stuck

I’m running the latest version on a MacBook Pro with Tahoe 26.2.

So far I've noticed:

  • Undo is unavailable (grayed out in the menu)
  • Extreme lag time when importing large images
  • Cursor gets stuck in the previous mode. (For example, if I switch to the magnifying glass to  enlarge the view then go back to the regular arrow, it stays in the magnifying glass.

    Hi @Duderonomy Jones,

Just following up to check if you are still experiencing the ‘Undo option greyed out’ issue. If yes, as suggested by the expert, please try testing the behavior in InDesign 2025 and let us know if the same issue occurs there. This will help determine whether the problem is specific to the current version or related to the environment.

Additionally, we are seeing similar reports from other users as well, and I’ve shared this internally with the product team for further review. To keep all updates and findings in one place, this issue is being tracked in the following thread, which will be actively moderated:

Please follow that thread for the latest updates.

Thank you for your patience while we look into this with the team.

    Hi @Duderonomy Jones,

Thanks for sharing the details and sorry to hear that you are experiencing this issue. To start with, I’d recommend manually resetting the InDesign preferences by following the video in this Helpx here: https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/setting-preferences.html

If that doesn’t resolve it, please test the behavior in macOS Safe Mode to help isolate whether any third-party plugin or background software might be interfering with InDesign. Ref: https://support.apple.com/en-in/guide/mac-help/mh21245/mac.

Please let me know how it goes and what you observe after trying this, so I can take it forward.

That seems to have done it. Can you offer any insight as to why that happened in the first place?
