InDesign 21.3 Hangs at "Late Initialisations" on Startup When Connected to Internet on macOS 14.8.3

Out of the blue, InDesign started to hang indefinitely upon startup yesterday. InDesign v21.3.0.60 on macOS 14.8.3 on am M1. The splash screen appears, then stops at "late initialisations", and eventually spits out an error message/trace of 87 pages, and that's it.

Strange thing is it starts normally if I disconnect the machine from the internet.

Out of desparation I resorted to "AI" and threw the error output at Claude, which suspected that libtypekit might be involved in the problem, but ultimately could not help.

Has anyone seen this behaviour? Any hints how to fix this, and get nomal startup when connected to the internet?

    Hi @plus31815485ji6x,

Thanks for reaching out, and I'm sorry to hear you’re experiencing this. I understand how frustrating it can be when Adobe InDesign doesn't launch as expected.

To help isolate this further, could you please try starting your Mac in Safe Mode and check if the issue persists there? This can help determine if any third-party software might be causing the delay. You can follow the steps here: https://adobe.ly/4bVEnMv

If the issue continues, please try the troubleshooting steps mentioned in this article and let me know how it goes: https://adobe.ly/3NRlnFU

Since you mentioned this happens when connected to the internet, it would also help to try switching to a different network, such as a mobile hotspot, and see if that changes the behavior.

Additionally, please try disabling Adobe Fonts sync from the Creative Cloud desktop app and then launch InDesign while still connected to the internet. After that, try signing out of Creative Cloud and launching InDesign again while staying online. If you are using any VPN or security software, please temporarily disable it and test again.

Lastly, please let me know if you see the Adobe crash reporter dialog during this process. If you do, kindly submit the report and share the email address you used via DM so I can check the logs on my end. You can refer to this guide for steps: https://adobe.ly/4veAIB7

Let me know how it goes after trying these, and I'll be happy to take this further with you.
