InDesign (21.4.1.) becomes unresponsive as soon as it loads and uses significant energy

InDesign was working fine last night. This morning, when I tried to export a PDF, it became unresponsive. I Forced Quit and tried again. After this second try, after it loads, I get only a grey screen and am unable to even access preferences. On top of that, it seems to be using significant energy. I tried uninstalling and installing other versions, to no avail.

Fixed it. (Make sure you’re turning on the second screen you HDMI plugged your mac to. The Export Window might be “vanishing” there… [someone please delete this whole thread 😭])

I cleared the cache, but the problem persists: trying to export a document turns InDesign unresponsive. It’s almost like the Export window is hidden as soon as it’s summoned. I can’t close it therefore I can’t click on anything else.
